The Lithosphere Approach
-
Measure infiltration and hydraulic conductivity easily and accurately with minimal training.
-
We have made measuring infiltration and hydraulic conductivity easy.
-
We have taken away the need to manually record data, and perform complex calculations.
-
All you need to do is enter basic information like ring size, and hold depth, and the SOIL Infiltrometer does all the calculations.
Soil Physical Health
Soil health relates to the ability of the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil to support plant growth and other ecosystem services. Measurement of infiltration and hydraulic conductivity is one of the best measures of soil physical health. Soil physical health refers to the ability of the pores and voids in the soil to store and allow movement of soil water. Infiltration and hydraulic conductivity are thus an ideal measure of soil physical health because they measure the combined effects of pore volume, pore size, and connectedness of pores in the soil.
The Lithosphere Infiltrometer was developed by Marcus Hardie, Ananda Maiti and Rob Hardy at the University of Tasmania to provide the soil community a low cost, automated means of assessing soil health without the need to understand soil physics or do post-measurement calculations.
